2009 Accomplishments

Since it started its activties in 2007, ADEF has trained 158 youth aged 11 to 16 from eight different Arab countries in various forms of digital expression in cinema, sound and music, graphic design, web design, animation, sports, arts and crafts and web 2.0 within a summer camp model. It also has trained 68 Arab trainers (aged 20 to 30) from Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine, Sudan and Syria in digital arts and various training methodologies for the purpose of expression. Young professionals are trained in open source software in the different audio-visual media and design and participate in enriching discussions over online sharing and collaboration and the roles of individuals and groups in this emerging worldwide trend that is proving to have tremendous empowering impact.

 

  1. Training of Trainers Workshop

Cairo-Egypt

TOT 22-26 May, 2009

 

It took place in May 2009 for five days from 22-26th for 18 trainers from 7 different Arab countries, aged between 19 - 30 years old.

Nine participants were selected to take part of the 2009 camp: 8 track trainers and one camp manager.

Participants from Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine, Sudan and Syria were exposed to digital arts and various training methodologies for the purpose of expression. Young professionals are trained in open source software in the different audio-visual media and design and participate in enriching discussions over online sharing and collaboration and the roles of individuals and groups in this emerging worldwide trend that is proving to have tremendous empowering impact.

 

2nd TOT 13 - 18 July, 2009

 

It took place in July 2009, for five days from 13-18th of July for 26 participants including facilitators and trainers from Egypt, Palestine, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon and Jordan aged16 - 36 year old. It was implemented immediately prior to the camp execution.


The 8 specialized trainers from 4 different Arab countries joined their Egyptian counterparts (managing staff, sports and arts workshops, health and logistics officers) as well as 3 trainers nominated by partner NGOs and three 16 and 17-year-old group leaders who in 2007 and 2008 were campers who had showed sophisticated leadership qualities. Working together on management and facilitation skills in preparation for the campers' arrival was an eye-opener for participants on many levels.

 

  1. Arab Digital Expression Camp - July 2009:

The summer camp was held from July 19 to 31, 2009 (two weeks). The camp targeted 60 youth aged between 12-15 from 7 countries (Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan).

Each camper took a total of 24 track (field and lab) workshops (music, video or animation), 8 Web 2.0 workshops, 8 arts workshops and 10 sports workshops.

All attended trips and daily evening events that included numerous activities.
